My Sleep Haven

Reaching your wellness goals definitely starts with a good night’s sleep!

This resonates with Alex & Corban Walls (of The Block fame) who have created a ‘Sleep Haven’ in their North Shore home.  Sleep is important to both of them, especially since welcoming baby Austen.

Devoted to design, interiors and fashion, Alex & Corban have created a comfortable and relaxing space to wind down each night.  They have a beautiful home environment, full of love and comfort.

We sat down with Alex at their sunny home to find out what went into creating their cosy sleep haven and to get her thoughts on their new Sealy Posturepedic Exquisite bed.

What does a sleep haven mean to you and what was your inspiration for this space?

A sleep haven to me is a place where your body and mind can relax and unwind. There’s so much going on in our everyday lives that I like to keep this space minimalist, with light colours, comfortable textures, linen blankets and carefully selected furniture.  I would say that our style is clean and modern.  The simple and relaxed feel creates a space that is restorative and calming.

What in your room makes you happy? What are some of your favourite pieces?

Our new bed!  I sit and work on it, take time to read and play with Austen on it, and take much needed naps, especially after our broken sleep at night with a young child!

"I look at the bed as the centrepiece of the bedroom and our sleep haven is created around that. Another favourite piece, is our full length mirror. Not only does it bring extra light into the room and create the illusion of depth, but I also have to see how an outfit looks before heading out, I love clothing and fashion - it's a form of self-expression."

What advice can you give us about making a bedroom space more comfortable?

The very first thing you should do is get rid of clutter. Not only will your bedroom look better, it will feel better, too. Freeing your bedroom of distractions will make it a much easier place to sleep because you won’t have the stress of unnecessary things around you. Only have things you need or love around you to encourage a soothing sleep.

How important is having a good night sleep to you? How does it affect you day-to-day?

It didn’t take us long as a couple and new parents to realise the importance of sleep. We end up being cranky and struggling to concentrate the next day if we’ve had a bad night’s sleep. And especially with our wee man, the sleep that I do get has become incredibly precious to me, so the thought of a comfortable new bed to look forward to each night is very exciting.

What was your first impression of the Sealy Posturepedic Exquisite bed?

We tried the Sealy online bed selector and then headed to store to try out the recommended bed.
It’s the first time in my life I’ve thought, “this bed is truly comfortable.”

Would you recommend your Sealy Posturepedic bed to your friends?

Absolutely. Although a new bed might seem like it’s a big-ticket item to start with, we have realised you spend a huge amount of your life in bed, so why not make a good investment in comfort and healthy sleeping? Think of it on a cost-per-sleep basis, although I am beginning to realise now that having a good sleep is priceless!

How do you find the Sealy Posturepedic Exquisite bed after sleeping on it for a few months?

After sleeping on our new bed over the last couple of months, I have found that I no longer wake up with a sore and twisted lower back. I didn't think that a new bed might be a way to help cure the aches and pains, but it has definitely helped! Corban and I have both been feeling energised in the morning, which is a sign of good, rejuvenating sleep... We are so very pleased with our new Sealy Posturepedic Exquisite bed and couldn't possibly go back to what we were sleeping on before!

What are your mornings like?

Every morning we relax in bed together as a family and discuss our plans for the day, while soaking up all of Austen’s cuddles and smiles! This is our favourite time of the day.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Corban and I love to curl up in bed and watch a movie or series at night time. During the day we love to get out and have a walk with Austen. The key to quality family time is having a great sleep so everyone is feeling refreshed and our moods are all good. Nobody likes being tired and cranky.

What’s your favourite quote or motto you live by?

“Have a laugh” – this motto reminds me not to take myself too seriously. I’m human and will make mistakes, I have character flaws and will enviably do and say silly things. Instead of being worried about what people think, I try and just laugh at myself.
